Research program / since 2018

As part of my master in futures studies, I develop a research program built around residencies, workshops and other related activities at the crossroads between futures studies, art, and political activism. I intend to research in an open exchange process with artists, social practices and citizen initiatives, within the broad framework of “Future as empowering discourse/tool in contexts of activism”. I’m especially interested in creative tactics of reframing in the arts and social contexts, as they somehow find matches in futures research methods. Building on both fields, I wonder how a creative futures method could look like – and what futures it would produce.

16 – 26 October 2018: Autumn Artist Exchange residency at Ponderosa (DE)

September 2018 – May 2019: following various campaigning initiatives in relation to the European Elections 2019 (European Alternatives, Diem25, European May…)

Ongoing: Exchanges with artists from the performing arts field on speculative and alternative futures (October 2018: Krassen Krastev and Christopher Füllemann,  Ponderosa artists, …).

Cultural evaluation / since 2016

Stemming from my activities as cultural manager, I was approached in order to conduct evaluations and surveys for Swiss dance organisations and subsiding bodies.

“Dance Promotion in Switzerland – Panorama Dance 2017” for National Culture Dialog / 2018

The National Culture Dialog coordinates public cultural policies at a national level (cities, cantons, state) through various working groups at both political and administrative levels. On behalf of its Dance Group, and with its support, I conducted a survey of more than 60 public funding bodies and as many dance venues and festivals which led to the writing of this state-of-the-art report. This first state of the arts in the discipline provides the basis for policy recommendations to be addressed to the same subsiding bodies. I have had the pleasure of working as a cultural manager in the performing arts field for the past fifteen years, where I was lucky to exchange and collaborate with a wide range of artists, cultural promoters and programmers in Switzerland and Europe.

Manager – Krassen Krastev / 2017 – 2019

Currently, I assist choreographer Krassen Krastev in the development of his new project CLSTRS with management, touring and dramaturgy help. His new production premiered at Arsenic in Lausanne (CH) in February 2019, and was on tour in April 2019 at festival zürich moves! (CH), at DNK Performance Art Space in Sofia (BG), and at Théâtre de l’Usine Geneva (CH). More on this in the news.

Manager – Reso Dance Network Switzerland / 2013 – 2016

Operating under a mandate from regional and national public subsiding bodies, Reso – Dance Network Switzerland as the national competence center for dance aims at improving the framework conditions in the artistic discipline. It coordinates programs and projects with more than 200 partners per year.

As head of Reso between 2013 – 2016, I had the pleasure of setting up and piloting various programs and projects with a team of six, i.e. the international dance platform Swiss Dance Days, the Switzerland-wide audience development festival Fête de la Danse / Tanzfest, the national meeting of the branch Forum Dance. Artists counselling (voluntary) / since 2016

With more time now, I regularly counsel young dance artists (political context, management, touring) on a voluntary basis in order to pass on the knowledge earned over the years. My knowledge is mainly focused on the Swiss context but I’ll be happy to help further if I can.
